For centuries Science & Religion have been at war! Why is that the two have to be in battle?

The two extremes seem to be ignorant of the each others views and opinions.

Wouldn't the world be a better place if the two would just get along?

So the big question is, can Science & Religion co-exist?

Professor Martin Sevior of University of Melbourne, Physics is of the opinion that the two are complimentary. I would have to agree that I am of the exact same view. We live in a complex, ever knowledgeable, ever growing world, in which all forms of learning and approaches should all be taken into consideration. More knowledge, more power right?

Jumping into things, the only simplified approach which I decided to look at was - Passion in relation to Science and Faith in the Religious context in a way that could possible make the two similar.

Another approach would definitely be to consider how the two actually benefit each other, which will be looked at in a later blog.

Scientific Passion

This feeling of enthusiasm or sense of enjoyment of doing an experiment or completing a challenging task is the emotion of Passion. Scientists in my opinion, are usually passionate about their work, if not i assume they would then find motivation in re-igniting passion.

Passion would be something that assists a Scientist in conducting a life-times discovery in the best way in assisting humankind against diseases and further understanding of health choices and so on.

I also assume Scientists might argue that they do not have emotions of 'passion', but rather is motivated by becoming the best or beating the colleagues. Motivated positively due to a negative mindset.

Religious people could also be highly passionate about their beliefs and ideologies of supreme beings. Such passion in this context would result in individuals spending more time on religious activities and sharing such passion on social media.

Passion as defined by Telegraph UK: Passion gives us drive; it helps us to push through when the going gets tough. Passion is a key element of personal economy - and we should follow it whenever possible.

Religious Faith

Believing in miracles is the general definition of Faith. Such an extraordinary event can not be explained by scientific or natural laws. Most Religious individuals believe in a divine agency that is not visible by their physical eyes, and that they experience phenomenas through their spiritual eyes.

It can be possible that Scientists can have faith in their hypothesis being proved before starting out. They could have a faith like experience in areas of interest that could be potential bias, which I am sure the would avoid.

Faith defined in The Christian Context: Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance of what we do not see (Hebrews 11:1 - Holy Bible)

So far, trying to compare Passion and Faith does not seem ideal. The two emotions or sensations are far from alike.

However, it was suitable to attempt and try to flesh out such a comparison, discussing if their is any similarity. There is no viable connection between Scientific Passion and Religious Faith found through such discussions with Scientific professionals and further online research. This could be an area of further discovery, with more participants with input on this topic and more connectedness to the real world.

It would be more ideal and simpler to explore ways in which Science and Religion can benefit each other or how the two would benefit the world.
